Teach Your Daughters about the realities of Lifes Journey which Marriage Is Only A Part – Vicky Zugah

Ghanaian actress, love therapist and television presenter, Vicky Zugah has given words of advice to African parents.

The actress raised serious concerns about the concept of marriage and how it has been portrayed as a trophy for most African women who are not ready for the journey it entails.

She advised parents to really teach and prepare their daughters to understand how marriage is a life time journey and one needs to be prepared fully for it and not forced them into one.

According to Vicky, Most Africans has projected that when one isn’t married after a certain age in life, it is a crime, taboo, a sin or something must definitely be wrong with the person. And this perception has forced many people into wrong marriages as some become victims of depression and die in abusive marriages for wrong choice as they feel its a shame to divorce after marriage.

Dear parents, We can change this narrative. Let us teach our daughters especially,

that life is a whole journey and marriage is only a PART of that journey. That marriage is a beautiful thing but then again a failed marriage isn’t a failed life and it is better to return home alive if it doesn’t work than to endure and return in a casket. Teach them to choose “Miss” over “The late Mrs”.

Warn them never to threaten an abusive partner with divorce. They must first leave unannounced then seek divorce from afar. Let us teach them how to be financially independent and not solely depend on their partners for things they can do for themselves. Etc Etc Etc YES WE CAN!…”
